Back-to-School Basics

Coming Back

If you have been out of school for a while or if you are continuing your education, then this is the guide for you. This guide will focus on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Libraries website, the WorldCat catalog, and databases.

Basic Objectives:

Useful Library Accounts

WorldCat Account

Follow these instructions to set up your account with WorldCat, our library catalog. You will use this account to view your library record, renew your checked-out items, create lists and save searches, or to place holds.

EBSCOhost Account

Follow these instructions to create an EBSCOhost account. This will allow you to save journal articles into folders and download eBooks. Since you maintain your account the entire time you are in school, you can save all your research from one semester to the next. You can also sign up for alerts and emails when new journals articles about your topic are published.

Finding Resources

Interibrary Loans (ILL)

Two types of loan are available to students, staff, and faculty.

  • Intra-Campus Loan

    1. Request books or videos to be sent to any campus location (Alva, Enid, Woodward, or Ponca City) through the online catalog.

    2. After selecting a title, choose Request Item. Log in with your university I.D. and password.

    3. This will bring up a form. When you fill it out with your personal information, use your school email address and identify to which campus the item should be sent.

  • Interlibrary Loan

    • Option 1: Find an article in within any of the available databases. If the article is not available at Northwestern, request it by clicking Ask Northwestern to get this item from another library.

    • Option 2: Find a resource from another library that is listed in our catalog. Choose Request Item to receive it from another institution.

    • Option 3: Request your item using the interlibrary loan request form. Be sure to include as much information as possible.
