- Academic Search Complete
- Why search here? This database contains peer-reviewed articles on almost every academic subject.
- What’s included? Content includes over 5,000 full-text journals and over 200 full-text magazines, as well as full-text monographs and conference proceedings. Additional content includes citations and abstracts for many more journals and other publications.
- Directory of Open Access Journals
- Why search here? This open-access database contains a wide array of peer-reviewed journals on almost every subject.
- What’s included? The DOAJ contains over 20,000 full-text, open-access journals.
- ScienceDirect Open Access
- Why search here? This collection of open-access journals covers almost every subject.
- What’s included? Included are over 1,300 peer-reviewed journals and books published by Elsevier.
- JSTOR
- Why search here? JSTOR is a large, full-text database covering a wide range of academic subjects, including biology, history, law, mathematics, medicine, philosophy, political science, psychology, social science, and social work.
- What’s included? JSTOR contains the full text of thousands of journals, and its collections are especially strong for older or historic journals.
- Project MUSE Open Access
- Why search here? Project MUSE maintains an open-access online repository for full-text eBooks and journals in the humanities.
- What’s included? The open-access resources on Project MUSE are eclectic, covering all branches of the humanities.
- Retraction Watch
- Why search here? Retraction Watch is a database of peer-reviewed articles that have been retracted because of plagiarism, fraud, or error. It also indexes articles about which “expressions of concern” have been made—that is, concerns that may eventually lead to retractions. This database can assist students in avoiding poor research.
- What’s included? The database contains thousands of entries. Each entry includes title, place of publication, author, reason for retraction, and other relevant information.

- Legal Collection
- Why search here? Legal Collection contains full-text, peer-reviewed law journals covering a wide array of legal topics.
- What’s included? The collection includes over 300 full-text journals.
- Legal Information Source
- Why search here? Legal Information Source contains legal forms and legal information aimed at the layman rather than the specialist. Topics include family law, property law, and business law, among others.
- What’s included? The collection includes legal reference books from Nolo and thousands of legal forms.
History & Global Studies
- ArchiveGrid
- Why search here? ArchiveGrid brings together information about archives and manuscript collections from all over the country.
- What’s included? This service aggregates finding aids (i.e., names and short descriptions) of historical documents, personal papers, family histories, and other records. Each entry includes any available description, the name and location of the holding institution, and a link to that institution’s catalog record.
- Bibliography of Indigenous Peoples in North America
- Why search here? BIPNA contains bibliographic entries for an extensive array of archaeological, historical, and contemporary information about the lives and cultures of North America’s aboriginal population.
- What’s included? Over 350,000 citations are included, ranging from newspapers and magazines to trade publications and academic journals.
- GreenFILE
- Why search here? GreenFILE contains a wide range of publications on environmental issues, including agriculture.
- What’s included? The database contains peer-reviewed publications, government documents, and popular works, including citations and abstracts for over a million records and the full text of over 15,000.
- Humanities International Complete
- Why search here? This database contains full-text scholarly literature for all branches of the humanities including English, foreign languages, literature, rhetoric, religion, the fine arts, sociology, and history.
- What’s included? This database includes the full text of over 1,200 peer-reviewed journals as well as citations and abstracts for over 2,300 journals.
- OAIster
- Why search here? OAIster combines open-access materials from multiple library catalogs. Most resources discovered through OAIster are instantly accessible.
- What’s included? The items that can be found through OAIster are eclectic, ranging from journal articles to digitized archival materials.
Political Science & Public Administration
- Catalog of U.S. Government Publications
- Why search here? This is the official online catalog for federal government publications, both print and electronic. It updates daily.
- What’s included? It includes over a million records, with links to over 290,000 full-text documents.
- Data.gov
- Why search here? Data.gov is the online catalog of government-generated datasets, from crime rates to annual rainfall. It aggregates information from all levels and branches of government.
- What’s included? Over 280,000 datasets are included, covering a vast array of information about the United States.
- Environment Complete
- Why search here? This database covers agriculture, biology, ecology, and related disciplines.
- What’s included? Environment Complete contains over 700 full-text, peer-reviewed journals and over 120 books, as well as citations for many more.
- GovInfo
- Why search here? This government website offers free access to all publicly available documents from the three branches of the federal government.
- What’s included? The site curates multiple searchable collections of government documents available in multiple file formats.
- GPO Advanced Search
- Why search here? This database can locate and retrieve data on government publications, with links to the documents’ full text.
- What’s included? This database contains over 600,000 records for documents from all branches of the federal government.
- Military & Government Collection
- Why search here? This collection contains peer-reviewed journals and magazines related to law enforcement, the military, and government. It is particularly useful for criminal justice, political science, public administration, and social work.
- What’s included? The database contains almost 300 full-text periodicals and indexing for almost 500.

- Education Source
- Why search here? This is one of our most important collections for the field of education.
- What’s included? This collection contains the full text of over 1,800 journals and 550 books. It also contains citations and abstracts for almost 3,000 additional journals and information on 100,000 educational tests.
- ERIC
- Why search here? This is one of the most important databases for the field of education.
- What’s included? This database contains almost two million records and more than 500,000 full-text documents, including journal articles, dissertations, and conference proceedings. Many of the hosted documents are not published anywhere else.
- Professional Development Collection
- Why search here? This is one of the most important databases for the Division of Education. It includes full-text, peer-reviewed journals and educational reports.
- What’s included? Contents include over 200 full-text journals, 200 educational reports, and citations and abstracts for an additional 750 journals.
Sociology
- APA PsycArticles
- Why search here? This is our most important database for peer-reviewed literature in psychology.
- What’s included? APA PsycArticles includes almost 120 full-text journals from the American Psychological Association and related organizations. Most journals’ entire runs are included, from their first issues to the present.
- Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print
- Why search here? The Mental Measurements Yearbook contains descriptions and reviews of commercially available psychometric tests used in education, business, and psychology. Although potentially useful to all students whose field of research involves mental tests, this database is particularly important for graduate students planning their own research projects.
- What’s included? The Mental Measurements Yearbook annually produces extensive descriptions of new testing instruments with reviews by subject experts. Tests in Print maintains a bibliography of all testing instruments currently available in English.
- Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection
- Why search here? This is one of the most important databases for psychology and is also relevant to nursing, education, the social sciences, and social work.
- What’s included? The database includes over 300 full-text journals with indexing and abstracts for almost 300 more.
- SocINDEX with Full Text
- Why search here? This is one of our most important databases for social work, sociology, and other social sciences.
- What’s included? Contents include over 500 peer-reviewed journals and citations and abstracts from over 4,000 journals. Information on monographs and conference papers is also included.
- Sociological Collection
- Why search here? This is one of our most important databases for social work, sociology, and other social sciences.
- What’s included? The collection includes over 200 full-text journals and magazines.

- MAS Complete
- Why search here? This database contains popular magazines and books on a wide range of nonfiction subjects. Although intended for high schools, it may be useful for subjects such as sports science, fine arts, social science, social work, and others.
- What’s included? Contents include over 540 full-text magazines, 440 reference books, thousands of biographies and primary-source documents, and an image collection.
- MasterFILE Complete
- Why search here? This collection contains a wide selection of popular magazines, reference books, and primary-source documents on many subjects. It is especially useful for researching business and current events.
- What’s included? The collection includes over 2,300 magazines, 1,100 eBooks, 55,000 primary-source documents, and 75,000 Associated Press videos, as well as an image collection.
- Newspaper Source Plus
- Why search here? This database curates content from a wide array of newspapers and radio and television news programs. Newspaper Source Plus focuses on recent and current news rather than on historical newspapers.
- What’s included? The database contains over 1,100 full-text newspapers and over 100 full-text newswires.
- Newswires
- Why search here? This database aggregates syndicated news from the previous thirty days. This database supplements Newspaper Source Plus and Regional Business News Plus.
- What’s included? Newswires of the last thirty days are included. Most are from the Associated Press.
- Regional Business News Plus
- Why search here? This database contains full-text newspapers and regional business publications.
- What’s included? Contents include over 1,300 full-text newspapers, 72 regional business publications, and more than two million television and radio news transcripts.
- TOPICsearch
- Why search here? This database is focused on current events. It will be most useful for classes or writing assignments focused on contemporary issues or news items.
- What’s included? The database contains over 98,000 full-text articles from newspapers, magazines, biographies, book reviews, government publications, and opinion polls.
eBooks & Reference Works
- Directory of Open Access Books
- Why search here? The Directory of Open Access Books contains freely available, peer-reviewed academic eBooks on a variety of subjects.
- What’s included? The Directory’s content is eclectic and covers a wide range of academic subjects.
- eBook Academic Collection
- Why search here? This database contains most of the library’s academic eBooks. It is also searchable through our catalog system.
- What’s included? This collection contains over 240,000 eBooks covering a wide range of academic subjects.
- eBook Collection
- Why search here? This is EBSCO’s eBook portal, which has its own unique interface. This collection is also searchable through our catalog system.
- What’s included? All of the eBooks we receive from EBSCO are included here.
- MAS Reference eBook Collection
- Why search here? This reference book collection supplements MAS Complete. Although intended for high school students, its contents may be useful in undergraduate classes.
- What’s included? Over 370 reference books on a wide variety of subjects are included.
- MasterFILE Reference eBook Collection
- Why search here? This reference collection supplements MasterFILE Complete. Although intended for public libraries, its contents may be useful in undergraduate classes.
- What’s included? Almost 780 reference books on a wide variety of subjects are included.

- Why search here? This online book repository, managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, contains searchable full-text eBooks on biology, health, medicine, and the life sciences.
- What’s included? The repository contains over 1,000 scholarly books and almost 10,000 reports, as well as other resources.
