Getting Started

Finding What You Need

Sometimes it can be difficult to find the resources you need in the library, but the library staff is here to help. See the descriptions below to learn about the available services and to find contact information.

Distance Learners

Access Library Resources

If you are off campus, any attempt to access electronic library resources such as research databases or eBooks should automatically redirect you to the off-campus login page.

If you are not automatically redirected, see the directions for off-campus access.

Technical Problems?

Problems with your username and/or password? Off-campus access not working correctly? Contact the NWOSU IT Department at 580-327-8602.

Library Services

Research

Research help is available at the library service desk, by email, and by phone.

You may use the non-circulating materials in the reference section. Reference materials can also be sent to other campuses for on-campus use only

Research help is available by appointment, by drop-in, or remotely with the research librarian.

Checking Out

The service desk is located by the front doors of the library. Your NWOSU I.D. card is your library card; you will need it to check out any materials.

Reserves

Professors may place material you need for your coursework on reserve at the library. Most reserved items have a two-hour loan period and must be used in the library. To see if your course has materials on reserve, search the course reserves page.

If you do not see such a link or button, of if you cannot find the resource you want in either the catalog or a databse, you can use this request form.

The library will attempt to find the item for you at another library. Once found, print materials will be available for pickup at the campus of your choice. Electronic material will be sent to you via your NWOSU email.

Technology Services

  • The libraries offer wireless (Wi-Fi) access via the Rangers Wi-Fi.

  • Laptops are available for use in the Alva campus library, up to four (4) hours at a time.

  • Printing is available from the computer lab in the Alva campus library and from the laptops available for check out. Printing is available in the Woodward and Enid study lounges.

  • Photocopying costs 10 cents per page. The photocopier is located on the library’s first floor, west annex, next to the periodicals.

  • Scanning is free if saved to your flash drive. The scanner is located next to the copier on the Alva campus library and in the study lounge on the Woodward campus.

  • Citation management tools are programs that help you organize, store, and format your citations and bibliographies. Citations management tools may require payment for premium services. Start your citation management early in your research process.

Useful Library Accounts

  • NWOSU Libraries WorldCat Catalog: Use this account to view your library record, renew items, create lists and save searches, and to place holds.

  • EBSCOhost: Creating an EBSCOhost account will allow you to download eBooks and save journal articles into folders. Since you maintain your account the entire time you are in school, your research is saved from semester to semester. You can also sign up for alerts and emails when new journals articles are posted about your topic.

  • See the Accounts page for more information.
